The "State of the Union" as of today: are you optimistic or pessimistic?

In light of the campaigning for the primaries, and then the November vote, there has rightly so generated a whole gambit of issues and questions. Just from these discussions, how do you perceive the nation right now? Does it have the capability to overcome? or is it in a desperate situation? Do you think anything will be resolved with a new president? Or is it fine just as it is? Or that these electoral discussions/debates are a good use/a waste of time for the U.S.A.?
