Bronchitis? Chest feels like I've smoked a cigarette (menthol). Other Qs about testing?

I know it sounds weird, but does that feeling in your chest only occur with bronchitis? If I lie on my back, I start gasping for air and also most of the time when I try to talk, I start coughing more than I already am. Also, when I go to the doctor to get checked out, what kind of tests should I expect and what kind of prescriptions do they normally give? Just antibiotics? How long does it normally take to recover after you start taking the prescription? Thanks.
